My name is Tammy Takaishi and I’m not just a music educator, I’m also a board-certified Music Therapist! I’m fortunate to be able to work in the schools and provide music therapy to students with disabilities, but I also work closely with music educators, and call upon my music education degree to compliment my everyday work. I hold dual Master’s degrees in Music Education and Music Therapy, and have a combined 20 years of teaching experience from private music lessons, to K-12 classroom and collegiate music courses.
How did you end up becoming a music teacher?
I have always loved music, and loved helping people. The first time I “taught” anyone, I was in 4th grade and gave piano lessons to my best friend down the street! When I went into college, I didn’t know exactly where I wanted to end up, I only knew I wanted to do music.

What has been the biggest surprise/revelation about being a music teacher?

In addition to simply listening to my favorite playlists, I take time for myself by reading books, or taking a walk.
