Hi! My name is Kaselyn Gibbs, and I am a kindergarten through sixth-grade general music teacher and junior high choir director in Brimfield, Illinois. I received my Bachelor of Music Education from Western Illinois University in 2017 and am currently in pursuit of my Master of Music in Music Education through Kent State University.
In 2020 I began creating online content that would benefit my students’ learning whether they were at home or in the classroom. I wanted a way to share this content with other teachers, and suddenly my YouTube Channel, Music with Mrs. Gibbs, was born. I have enjoyed making these videos and connecting with teachers and students from all over the nation.

How did you end up becoming a music teacher?
I’ve always loved music and working with kids! Becoming a music teacher was the perfect way to combine those two passions.
What inspires you to share your experiences with other teachers?
During my first few years of teaching music, I was drowning! Teaching at a K-12 school was such hard work, and there was so much to plan. Tips, tricks, and lessons from other teachers kept me afloat. I now love to give back and help other teachers like the ones who have and continue to help me.
What is your favorite food?
My favorite meal of the day is dessert because I have the biggest sweet tooth! Anything chocolate is my weakness.
Do you have any pets? Tell us about them.
I have two pets. A fluffy white cat named Gus and an Australian shepherd/spaniel mix named Jaq (pronounced Jack). Gus and Jaq were named after Cinderella’s two adorable mice sidekicks!

What is your favorite style of music to listen to?
After a long day of teaching music, I usually listen to podcasts on my drive home from work. However, when I am in the mood for some personal listening, I enjoy artists such as Ben Platt and Ed Sheeran.
What is your favorite school-appropriate beverage – are you a cola or coffee drinker?
I start each morning with a cup of tea. I’ve never been a coffee drinker, but I love trying new flavors of herbal teas.
