Wanda Vásquez Garcia

Wanda Vásquez García is a Dominican-American general music educator, children’s choir director, advocate, award-winning author, and clinician. Originally from the Dominican Republic and now based in Colorado, she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, the oldest university in the Americas, and a Master’s Degree in Music Education with a focus on choral conducting from the University of Northern Colorado. Currently, she serves as the general music teacher at Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer in Lafayette, Colorado. Wanda is also the author of the award-winning bilingual children’s book From Across the Street, published by F-flat, which introduces young readers to the Dominican folkloric music of Los Palos.

Recently, Wanda was honored with the 2024 Impact Award for her outstanding contributions to education in the Boulder Valley School District and was recognized as a 2025 Colorado Teacher of the Year finalist. Previously, she served as a National Teacher Leader for the Connected Arts Networks (CAN) Project, part of the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME), where she collaborated with educators nationwide to promote excellence and equity in arts education. She also held the role of choral co-coordinator for the Institute of Composer Diversity, furthering her commitment to fostering inclusive and representative musical spaces.

Wanda has presented clinics and reading sessions on multicultural music, Dominican folk music, culturally responsive teaching, and music technology in the elementary classroom. Her presentations have reached audiences at the Colorado American Choral Directors Association (CoACDA), Colorado Music Educators Association (CMEA), NAfME Eastern Division, Southwest American Choral Directors Association (SWACDA), F-flat Annual Back to School Symposium (FABSS), and the Music Will Modern Band Summit.
