Dawson Davenport

Dawson Davenport has been working to create a space specifically for Indigenous Art and Artists and was working on opening an art gallery in Iowa City pre-covid. He has used his non-profit, the Indigenous Art Alliance, to create a network of artists throughout the country to come to Iowa to showcase their artworks. Dawson has been recently using his social media platforms to share this vision by hosting an event called #StayHome Poetry Reading Series in response to the breakout of COVID-19 this year, trying to inspire people to stay home and enjoy some Indigenous Poetry and Hip-Hop.

Dawson also enjoys educating students of all grades through the arts about his plight and his people, the Meskwaki. Dawson has his writing published in a book titled, We the Interwoven Vol. 2 and some artwork in Amazing Iowa Athletes.

Dawson also has a clothing brand called Daepian Apparel. Dawson currently is working on a Winter Elder Food Box Drive, creating food boxes for the Meskwaki elders in light of Iowa Winters and COVID-19.  Donations accepted at Venmo: @elderfoodbox
